Using Rufus is an effective way to create a bootable Windows 11 USB drive, especially if you need to bypass hardware checks for unsupported PCs.
Prerequisites
Windows 10/11 ISO file: Download the official Windows 10/11 Disk Image (ISO) from the Microsoft website.
Rufus: Download the latest version of Rufus, a portable application that doesn't require installation, from the official website rufus.ie.
USB drive: A USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of storage. All data on this drive will be erased, so back up any important files first.
Step-by-step guide
Insert the USB and launch Rufus. Plug your USB drive into your computer, then run the Rufus executable file you downloaded. Rufus should automatically detect your USB drive.
Select the Windows 10/11 ISO file. Under the "Boot selection" section, click the SELECT button. A file explorer window will open; use it to locate and select the Windows 11 ISO file you downloaded earlier.
Confirm the image option. Rufus should automatically select "Standard Windows Installation" under the "Image option" field. Leave this as the default.
Set the partition scheme. For modern PCs, the recommended setting is GPT. For older systems that use legacy BIOS, choose MBR. Rufus can often auto-detect this, but it's best to confirm the setting.
(Optional) Bypass hardware requirements. This is a key feature of Rufus. After clicking START, a pop-up window called "Windows User Experience" will appear. Check the box for "Remove requirement for 4GB+ RAM, Secure Boot and TPM 2.0" to install Windows 10/11 on unsupported hardware.
Start the creation process.
Click START to begin.
You will see a warning that all data on the USB drive will be erased. Click OK to confirm.
Wait for Rufus to finish. The progress bar will show the status. Once it is complete, the status will show as "READY".
Safely eject the USB drive. Close Rufus and safely eject the bootable USB drive.
Boot from the USB drive. Insert the bootable USB into the target computer and restart it. During startup, press the key to enter your computer's BIOS or UEFI boot menu (often F2, F12, Del, or Esc). Select the USB drive to boot from it and begin the Windows 11 installation.
